The ZX-1 has proudly sat at the helm of performance the Vitus brand for a long time. Since 1991, the ZX-1 has been a pioneer in carbon construction, and this latest model sits at the pinnacle of aerodynamic excellence, power-transfer and stability in all race and weather conditions. With a stiff and flex-free frameset at its core to increase your performance output when putting the power down when climbing or sprinting and for complete control when racing to the bottom of high-speed alpine descents.
This bike races upon a UCI approved frameset, which is used by the UCI Continental Pro cycling team and is raced by some of Britain’s top talent, including the multiple Olympic champion Ed Clancy OBE. The ZX-1 craves competition and fills you with the desire to win by providing the ultimate in reliability, power-transfer and cornering finesse in all race conditions.
Driving the ZX-1 forward is the Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 groupset, the chainset received a complete re-design. Now featuring Shimano's iconic 4-arm hollow spider that is made from hollow-forged aluminium, the crankset has a perfect balance of low weight and stiffness.
Like the crankset, these Dura-Ace 9100 shifters have received an overhaul to improve ergonomics and shifting efficiency. The re-designed brake hoods are now more comfortable to grip, especially for those with smaller hands. The shifters also offer up to 14mm of reach adjustment.
The Dura-Ace R9100 rear derailleur takes the Shadow technology from its mountain bike range and introduces it to the road. The shadow design places the rear derailleur under the chainstay and cassette to give a slimmer profile, which not only helps with aerodynamics but also offers extra protection in crashes.
The front mech has been redesigned to be smaller, more efficient and provide faster and crisper shifting. The internal toggle mechanism provides greater clearance for larger tyres and it now features a built in cable tension adjustment bolt meaning there is no need for inline barrel adjusters.
Coupled up with the Shimano R9100 drivetrain is a set of the all new Dura Ace hydraulic brakes, Using the new flat mount standard the Shimano brakes work on a dual piston braking system allowing a lighter and better performing brake. Coupled up with 160/140mm Shimano's rotors and IceTec pads these brake will not let you down when you need to stop no matter what the conditions!
Featuring 12mm thru-axles front and rear, which optimise this bikes power-transfer. In addition, it rolls on ultra-efficient and lightweight DT Swiss ARC 1100 Dicut Carbon wheels with Schwalbe Pro One Microskin tubeless tyres, which provides the ultimate in race-attacking performance.
Finising the ZX-1 off Vitus have spec'd its very own custom carbon aero seatpost coupled up with the Prologo Dimension T4.0 saddle, making sure you are as comfortable as possible whilst in those long rides in the saddle. Helping up in the cockpit is a set of Ritchey WCS Alloy bars paired up with the matching stem. Bringing down the weight, aiding with comfort and offering maxium control at all times!
Rest assured that each bike is fully built, tested and tuned by Wiggle's team of qualified bike mechanics to ensure your bike arrives in perfect condition. Find out which size fits you by clicking the size chart tab.
First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes. Without exception, each of the bikes – from their singlespeed commuter to the high-end carbon road model – won plaudits for their ride quality, build and great value. The reviews confirmed what they knew all along, and they intend to improve on these already test-winning models as Vitus push forward with the development of this great brand of bikes. “Credit has to be due to a brand that has come back from the ashes and rather than milk the prestige of the old days, has set its sights on the biggest players on the scene.” CYCLIST magazine. Vitus bikes have been tested in many of the top cycling titles and websites across all disciplines. Their bikes have won group tests across Europe and are regarded as some of the best on the market.
