The Vitus Substance VRS-1 Gravel Bike (Apex) is fast, agile and versatile. It has an aluminium frame, carbon fork and a fast and smooth-shifting SRAM Apex 11-Speed groupset with a wide-ranging 11-42 Tooth cassette and Apex hydraulic disc brakes.

The Substance VRS-1 features a strong and lightweight aluminium frame and a carbon fork for a sublime balance of reliability and control at a low weight. And it is equipped with a SRAM Apex 1x11-Speed groupset with a wide-ranging 11-42T cassette and Apex hydraulic disc brakes. It also rolls upon Tubeless Ready DT Swiss G 1800 Spline wheels and WTB Venture TCS Tubeless Ready tyres.

SRAM Apex 11-Speed Groupset and Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Whether embarking on a fast-paced gravel race or simply staying light for a mixed-terrain local loop, the Substance VRS-1 with SRAM Apex components is capable of adapting to suit your ride. At its core, a double-butted aluminium frame and carbon fork are tuned for comfort on long days and across varied surfaces, aided by big volume tyres that soften the bumps and add traction over rutted or loose tracks. With compatibility for 1X or 2X drivetrains and either 700c or 650b wheels, you can really fine-tune the setup to best fit where you are riding. And if ultra-racing or multi-day expeditions are your thing, the frame has mounts for luggage, waterbottles and mudguards. For those remote rides where water, food and spares might be hard to come by, you can always load up with whatever you need to reach the next supply point.

About the Vitus brand

First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes.
