The Substance V-2 FB features an aluminium frame and carbon fork that offers the ideal balance for agility, control and responsive cycling at a low weight while its flat handlebar provides an upright sitting position and all-day riding comfort. Its Substance It is also equipped with a Shimano Sora 2x9-Speed drivetrain, Tektro mechanical disc brakes and WTB ST i23 Tubeless Ready rims wrapped in Vee Rail Sport all-terrain tyres.
The Vitus Substance loads your ride with freedom and choice. It expands your world, opening up new possibilities to ride and explore where otherwise you might not have looked. Unshackled from the same old routes, each ride reveals new ways ahead, like a fresh map - that bridleway to who-knows-where, the gravel track through the woods or the rougher shortcut that you know is quicker but that other bikes couldn’t handle. See, in a world obsessed with pace, sometimes we need to focus on the place, the journey and the fun that comes from a bike with outstanding capability and versatility to ride and race anywhere.
Whether embarking on a far-flung off-road ride or simply staying light for a mixed-terrain local loop, the Substance V-2 with its flat handlebar setup is capable of adapting to suit your ride. At its core, a double-butted aluminium frame and carbon fork are tuned for comfort on long days and across varied surfaces, aided by big volume tyres that soften the bumps and add traction over rutted or loose tracks. This model is setup with a 2X Shimano Sora drivetrain but the frame is also compatible with 1X chainsets and either 700c or 650b wheels, so you can really fine-tune the bike to best fit where you are riding.
The flat handlebar, with ergo grips, brings a touch of the upright comfort and stability of a traditional hybrid bike and pairs brilliantly with the versatile nature of the Substance frame. For longer rides with gaps between supply points, there are mounts for luggage and waterbottles, as well as for mudguards to shield you from mud and water.
This isn’t simply about the same cliches of getting off the beaten track or going in search of the road less travelled, because the Substance is more than a gravel or adventure bike. It broadens your horizons, delivering richer experiences and powerful lasting memories. It’s a bike that enables you to do more. It’s a bike that gives you options. The Substance empowers a new mindset, one that entices you to break away from routine and to ride where you want to ride, unrestricted.

First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes. Without exception, each of the bikes – from their singlespeed commuter to the high-end carbon road model – won plaudits for their ride quality, build and great value. The reviews confirmed what they knew all along, and they intend to improve on these already test-winning models as Vitus push forward with the development of this great brand of bikes. “Credit has to be due to a brand that has come back from the ashes and rather than milk the prestige of the old days, has set its sights on the biggest players on the scene.” CYCLIST magazine. Vitus bikes have been tested in many of the top cycling titles and websites across all disciplines. Their bikes have won group tests across Europe and are regarded as some of the best on the market.
