The Vitus Nucleus is the 4x winner of MBR magazine £500 Hardtail of the Year award. This 27 VRS model is agile and fast aboard 27.5" wheels and features a Shimano Deore 1x10-Speed groupset with an 11-46T wide-range cassette and hydraulic disc brakes. Ideal for XC riding and trail centre all-day epics, this hardtail provides a versatile and dependable performance anywhere.
Don’t be fooled by the price point, the Nucleus isn’t your run of the mill entry-level mountain bike. It’s the foundation of the Vitus mountain bike range, with aggressive geometry designed to get you hooked. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. For 2021 all models now come with 1x groupsets.
The low, long, and slack geometry is coupled to 120mm of Suntour Air suspension taking care of any rough terrain you'll encounter on the trails while the Tektro M290 brakes will give you ample stopping power. For 2021 the Nucleus has received a threaded bottom bracket for increased durability and a wide range groupset thanks to the Shimano 1x10 M5100 Deore groupset. A clutch activated rear mech, and a narrow wide 1x chainring up front will keep you on the trails all day.
Vitus' tried and tested combination of WTB tyres and rims offers superior performance and grip. Finished off with a combination of Vitus and Nukeproof components the Nucleus 27 VRS has stepped up to take your riding to the next level.

First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes. Without exception, each of the bikes – from their singlespeed commuter to the high-end carbon road model – won plaudits for their ride quality, build and great value. The reviews confirmed what they knew all along, and they intend to improve on these already test-winning models as Vitus push forward with the development of this great brand of bikes. “Credit has to be due to a brand that has come back from the ashes and rather than milk the prestige of the old days, has set its sights on the biggest players on the scene.” CYCLIST magazine. Vitus bikes have been tested in many of the top cycling titles and websites across all disciplines. Their bikes have won group tests across Europe and are regarded as some of the best on the market.
Sizing Information
The size chart below will get you on the right size bike. Experienced riders may also wish to refer to the geometry chart for more detail.
Getting the Right Fit
At Wiggle we measure each of our bikes to build accurate size charts for our customers. Our qualified team of mechanics then individually check each order, against measurements supplied by you, to ensure the size chosen is correct. Another reason you can have complete confidence when buying a bike from Wiggle!
If you are on the change over between sizes both options will fit. Racers and experienced riders would usually select a smaller size as this offers quicker handing. A larger bike offers more stability and is more suited to new and intermediate riders.
