Tough and Light Alloy Cyclocross Frame

With its triple-butted 6061-T6 alloy frame and full carbon fork, this extremely capable bike offers the perfect balance of control and comfort. There’s also a 27.2mm seatpost to improve the comfort even further, whilst the dialled-in geometry of a longer top tube and shorter stem work together to improve handling. You’ll truly appreciate this on tight and technical courses or when navigating built-up areas on your commute.

SRAM Apex Components

Equipped with a race-ready single ring chainset with an X-SYNC 40T chainring and a drivetrain that’s organised around SRAM’s Apex 1 Hydro groupset, the Energie CX bike is designed to thrive on the loosest, muddy ‘cross courses. The Apex hydraulic disc brakes, tubeless-ready WTB ST i21 CX /Novatec wheelset and Vitus’ own finishing kit complete this solid package. There are even bottle cage and mudguard mounts to expand the potential for all year multi-purpose use.

Wide Tyre Clearance

Vitus has obsessed over every single detail with the Energie’s cyclocross race-ready frameset. From the much-increased mud and tyre clearance to the internal cable routing to prevent mud and water ingress and increase shouldering comfort, this bike has it all. Boosting the performance further still, the beefed-up blades on the high-modulus T700 HM-UD full carbon forks ensure precise tracking and steering to help you to handle the rigours of competitive cyclocross racing.

About the Vitus brand

First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes. Without exception, each of the bikes – from their singlespeed commuter to the high-end carbon road model – won plaudits for their ride quality, build and great value. The reviews confirmed what they knew all along, and they intend to improve on these already test-winning models as Vitus push forward with the development of this great brand of bikes. “Credit has to be due to a brand that has come back from the ashes and rather than milk the prestige of the old days, has set its sights on the biggest players on the scene.” CYCLIST magazine. Vitus bikes have been tested in many of the top cycling titles and websites across all disciplines. Their bikes have won group tests across Europe and are regarded as some of the best on the market.

Vitus Energie Cyclocross Bike (Apex - 2020) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MangoRubicon from Amazing value bike Generally ride road and TT but was looking for a bike to use for gravel races and some long Audax style races (300Km+). I have done a bit of gravel with the original tyres but also put some road tires on and am currently using it for most of my training miles. Sram Apex works great, the wheels aren't super light, but they set up tubeless real easy and hubs role well. Geometry looks much more like a gravel bike than a CX bike so it is nice and stable and descends real well but can still go round corners on the gravel. General build and finishing of the frame is also ace. Only down side is that the tyres it comes with are not amazing (but good enough) and for off road and steep hills I put on a 11-46t cassette on (which the rear mech takes fine). With out doubt the best bang for buck bike I have ever owned and find myself choosing to ride it over my racing bike on many days. Through axels and sram apex at this price point matched up with the quality of the frame set just can't be beat. Very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mattsesh from Bought as my first bike. Used mostly on bridleways and road. Really lightweight and easy to assemble. Saddle is, as expected, a little hard

Sizing

I'm 175cm tall. Would you recommend Medium or Large frame? Thanks.
Asked by: lasercamel
Hi, Based on your height I would recommend the Medium sized frame. This would give you more room to adjust your fit should you want too, while maintaining the good handling characteristics of the bike. Thanks

Will this bike fit a taller rider

Hello, I am 6' 2" or 74" which is one inch taller than the apparent max for this bike - the XL is for 71" to 73" apparently. I really don't want to be squeezed into too small a frame - or more likely, I do not want to have to raise the seat so high I am bent double to get to the bars. Does any taller riders have experience of this bike? Does the XL fit?
Asked by: AndyLondon
Hello Sir, Luckily I have one of these bikes myself so i can give you some feedback from my own personal experience. I ride a size Large and this fits me fine, and i am 183cm tall or 6ft. I suspect at a push I would also fit onto the Medium bike if it swapped out for a slightly longer stem. I suspect the sizing guide is not quite accurate and will look into getting this amended. Thanks

Sizing

I am confused by the size guide. I am 175cm tall and based on the size guide I am on the limit of an M. When comparing my current bike to the Vitus the stack & reach values are much closer to a S size. And also looking at the carbon version of the energie, the CR in a M is closer to the S. What size would be recommended?
Asked by: Haas1
Hi, My advice would be to look at the TT length and stem length of your current bike if you think it's a good fit and comfortable ride. Compare these to the Aluminium Energie to help make your decision, between the S and L sizes. Be careful that you do not confuse 'actual' and 'virtual' measurements. The Carbon Energie features a different more race orientated geometry so any size chart will be different. Hope that helps. Thanks

What's the max tyre size with mudguards fitted? Winter road tyres!

Asked by: Meggerman
Hi, This bike will take a tyre up to 700c x 45mm. Mudguards will largely depend on the style of mudguard and or the tyre choice - whether you choose a treaded tyre or a slick tyre. For winter road riding with full length mudguards, i'd recommend up to a 37mm tyre with appropriate sized mudguard. Thanks
