Topeak QR Beam Rack - MTX is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Barnsey1960 from Quality lightweight product. This bike rack is perfect for what I need. I have a folding bike with 16 inch wheels and this rack fits perfectly. It is easy to put on and take off. It is high quality and very lightweight. It is surprisingly sturdy, looks good. I have my trunk bag strapped to the rack all the time and I put them on and off the bike in one lump when folding/unfolding it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tony241152 from Excellent rack with one or two niggles I have 2 of these and I'm about to order two more (my wife and I have several bikes in different locations). They easily clamp on a round saddle stem and the fitting bags can be taken on and off easily. They cover a range of saddle stem diameters. We use them on our cross bikes. We also have one of the lighter variety for a lighter bike but this won't take the heavier bags. They are well made and rugged. Not too heavy for the type of cycling they are useful for. The matching bags are also excellent and come with shoulder straps for easy off bike carrying. One can buy mounts to fit side paniers and although I have some I have never used them. It can be a bit of a stretch getting one's leg over the bag and the bike is a little rear heavy but these issues will be present for any rear rack. I have two minor niggles. 1. My legs usually just touch the clamp lever when cycling. I've tried playing with the orientation of the clamp lever, but cannot stop it. This may be just because of my saddle position. The lighter version uses a simple bolt instead of the quick release lever. This does not have the same issue. The second niggle is regarding the inability to mount rear lights. Topeak do their own light that fits but it is a bit of a wimp for these days. I have clipped lights to the bag, (There is a suitable strap) but this is not very satisfactory. So I ended up having some pieces 3D printed that take a particular Lezyne lamp. The mount replaces the existing reflector. This works a treat.

Are the V-type really for smaller frames?

I have seen the three styles of this rack (A, E and V) advertised elsewhere with different discriptions. Here in general they are stated that A - Small, E - Medium, V - Larger frames. This is in contradiction to the description stated on wiggle which is that V-type is more suitable to smaller framed bikes. This is from both online retailers and local shops in person. It makes more sense to me that the V-type, having a downward bend would be more suitable to larger frames where the distance between the top of the wheel and available seatpost to clamp the rack onto is larger. This would allow any luggage to sit with a lower centre of gravity without interfering witht the wheel. However with smaller frames there is less clearance space and so a rack without a drop must be used, which means the use of a E or A-type rack. In my mind using the V-type with the drop angle would risk the rack coming into contact with the rear wheel, particularly on full suspension setups. To me this is much more logical. So, to clarify, would you still suggest the V-type for smaller frames?
Asked by: Laughable
I bought the "V" type rack for my 20" frame hardtail MTB and the rack sits parallel about 8 cm above the rear wheel, (26"). I Googled as many images of the rack as I could find and compared the rake (?) of the seat post in the pics against my bike. As the angle seemed right I took the plunge and it worked out well. Not sure if all bike seat posts are the same angle. Refer to pic.

Which of these racks would work on a 29er?

Asked by: Redthommo
I can confirm that depending on the frame size I would advise either the E or A shape for a 29er. I hope this helps.

Would this beam rack fit a hardtail ?

Looking to fit panniers to my GT aggressor xc 3 (pic attached), however it doesn't have eyelets for standard racks, would the Topeak QR Beam MTX Rear Rack V-Type be suitable ?
Asked by: MacDhonnchaidh
These only attach to the seatpost so no eyelets needed. If your tall and the seat sits high then the V-Type is good but if your not the safe option is to go for E-type

Do you have to use Topeak bags with this rack or can you use other brands?

Asked by: davewall
I also wondered this, but opted for the Altura Orkney 34 Universal Panniers and they fit just fine. I cant see anything to suggest that any other type of pannier wouldn't fit, so long as they have their own clip system. Off topic, but if you are planning on using panniers with this you will need to buy the side frame attachments as this is not included.

Which Model Topeak QR Beam MTX rear Rack V or E type

I currently ride a Lapierre Zesty with a 31.6X350mm seat post. Not sure which model I need to puchase for the perfect fit. Can you advise please.
Asked by: GrimRider
The E-Type rack is straight, V-Type rack features a 'v-shape' bend for larger framed bikes. You need to match the rack to your frame size rather then seat post size.
