Featuring a proprietary SRAM actuation ratio, professionally engineered cage design and intuitive adjusters, the new SRAM Apex front derailleur establishes itself as a legitimate high performance product.

New SRAM® Apex is the perfect blend of technology and performance, so all riders can challenge their personal limits. SRAM® Apex has double chainrings, which are simpler, lighter, faster, and in every way, just better than a triple. And with a gear range that's wider, making climbing easier and descending faster, why would you ever go back to three?

About the SRAM brand

Product manuals and service guides for all SRAM, Rockshox, Avid and Truvativ products can be found at sram.com or videos can be found on YouTube. SRAM Corporation was founded in Chicago, IL (USA) in 1987 by six employees with one component, Gripshift Twist Shifters. Today, SRAM’s commitment and growth can be measured by its 1,500 employees, its 150+ cycling products, and it’s 12 facilities worldwide. SRAM has found tremendous growth through innovative products, unparallel customer service, strong sales, and complimentary acquisitions. SRAM acquisitions include Sachs Bicycle Components, purchased in 1997, a leading manufacturer of chains, cassettes and hubs. In 2002 SRAM purchased RockShox, the world’s mountain bike suspension specialist. 2004 brought the purchase of both Avid brakes and Truvativ cranks and components. The addition of these companies has allowed SRAM to grow into the world’s second largest component supplier to the cycling industry. SRAM's core philosophy is to make cycling better. Their commitment is expressed in their local, national and international team and event sponsorship.

SRAM Apex Front Derailleur is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Eddiegold from Great Upgrade The difference to this and the standard micro shift is night and day, I thought my chain ring was damaged so I replaced it as my chain was coming off quite regularly. It was still happening so I upgraded to this and I don't have to worry about the chain falling off and the shifting is perfect! I'm running it on a 34T 46T with no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Johnny301270 from SRAM Apex front drailer I commute on a Boardman Team CX & have struggled from day 1 with the standard microshift drailer. Finally decided to upgrade after a year & cannot believe the difference. Flawless changes now...no more planning my changes til I'm on straight & got a steady speed going; sweet changes every time...HIGHLY recommended as with all the other reviews on here by Boardman owners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MitStu1 from Why did I wait so long to upgrade! I have 2013 Boardman CX Team which has had drive train issues from day one. One of the major issues was the chain ring changing, which required tremendous force to get into the big ring and the loss of the chain. The shifters had already been upgraded from Apex to Force, but the front mech was still the original Microshift. I had originally wanted a Force front mech but this is not a "band on" fit so I plumped for the Apex. This has been an absolute revelation. Changes up and own require just a gentle touch where as previously I had had to plan in advance my changes because of the force required to change up. Now I have a silky change up and down that only requires a deft touch. I have marked it down a star as I now have a bit of chain rub, but that is probably due to stretching of the new cable and no doubt will be resolved with a bit of adjustment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lesserscr from Boardman should have fitted this as standard! I'm not sure why Boardman didn't fit a complete group set on the CX team, did it really make such a difference to the production costs? Like others before me I have now replaced the front derailleur, and it definitely makes a difference in the crispness of changing between the two chain rings. So overall it was it money well spent? The answer has to be yes, but I do think that it shouldn't have been necessary and I now have a spare front mech that will probably never be used.

Compatible with older red shifters?

I have some issues making my 2007 sram red front derailleur work with my compact 32/50 crank set 2x10 speed. My specialized S-works was born with a 53/36 set. I admit I am using shimano chainrings as I count not find any suiting sram ones. And I understand they do mix on older sets. Would an apex front derailleur do the trick?
Asked by: StigK
I can confirm that this would be suitable for a compact crank set. I must advise as per the manufacturers recommendations it is not advised to mix brands and as such I can find no information to suggest this would or would not solve your problem. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
