Can this be used with a Tiagra 4600 10 speed cassette?

Hi there, I have just bought a Shimano 6750 Compact Hollowtec Chainset and believe I need to purchase this CN-6701 chain but do not want to replace my Tiagra 4600 cassette if I do not need to....can you please advise?
Asked by: Meesey
I can confirm that this chain would be compatible with your cassette, however we do recommended chaining both the cassette and chain at the same time as they wear at the same rate.

Why Shimano says (wrote in the box) "only for two chainrings"?Why don't work with triple?

Asked by: blimea
As someone else says, this recommendation is due to triples needing more sideways flex. However, I have been using these chains on a triple (50 39 30) for a couple of years, owing to the triple specific chain I used to get being discontinued, and have had no problems. 116 links is plenty; I have to remove a couple to get the correct length.

Why 116 links?

From my limited understanding of chains, most chains have 114 links. What purpose does the extra 2 links serve on this chain?
Asked by: SteveSA
The two extra links are simply for spares, you usually need to shorten the chain anyway so they usually ends up being extra links.

118 link chain for 11-28 cassette.

Shimano advise that you add two links to your chain ( guess they presume you have 116 links) if your cassette is 28 t or greater. Can these be ordered through you? Don't really want to use two quick links on one chain. Thanks.
Asked by: woody1965
What will be described here is a general method of measuring out your chain, whereby you measure around your large front ring and largest (lowest) gear on the back, avoiding the mech. You then take this chain length and back off/add 2 links before cutting to ensure the rear mech is not overstretched. It is never advised to actually add links to a chain.

query re CN6701 vs CN6700

I have a 6700 Ultegra groupset with 105 cassette (CS5700) and 105 chain (CN5701 or CN5600) and want to upgrade the chain to Ultegra (as well as the cassettes). The Shimano website calls this a CN6700 not a CN6701 - is there a difference or are these product codes simply different in different countries (the CN6700 is the code from Australia).
Asked by: titleist
The difference between the 6700 and 6701 chains is in the chamfering of the outer plates. The chain is now compatible with older double chainsets. The 6700 chain is no longer available to order from the supplier and I would recommend only purchasing the 6701 chain.

Hi, is the connection for this chain a clip or pin?

Asked by: Mrpete1234
The chain comes with a pin, its pretty easy to install with the right chain breaker. You can also buy clip chain links to use with this chain, however you'll need to find ones that are compatible with Shimano directional chains.
