Rated 5 out of 5 by RGLC from Review of first 12 years of use! I bought these pedals in 2008. Over the last 12 years I have used them continuously for XC, road riding and then commuting in all weathers. They must have well over 20k miles on them by now! During that time, I have never done any sort of maintenance at all and they continue to be quiet, stable and intuitive to clip into. Although the price has increased a bit I would not hesitate to recommend these. The only possible downside would be the additional weight over cageless pedals, but this isn't a huge amount in the grand scheme of things. I don't intend to treat them to any maintenance and believe that they will probably last a good few years more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by A513 from Great pedals. Pretty light and a usable cage. After a 10 year break from riding trails I was looking for a pedal akin to what I use to use. Have looked at everything available I went for these. Shimano reliability and lighter cage compared to the red dx pedals I once had. The bearings are smooth and spare parts are available. Easy pedal entry and the cage is good enough to ride until your clipped in. I can also nip up the road in trainers if I need. They might be thought of as Ford Focus but they do tick all of the boxes and some.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hobbit1066 from brilliant replacement for Time atac bought these to replace 2 sets of Time atac that were falling to bits after yrs of use, was worried they wouldn't have the float or release like the atac that my knees needed so i purchased the extra release M cleats as well. cant fault these at all , superb release and grip for pulling up to peddle as well, lots of float and my knees dont suffer. would buy again if required and they can take a knock and brush it off

Comparison with M464

How do these compare to the M424? These are twice the price and don't seem to have any differences?
Asked by: jellied
The 647's are a superior pedal, they will prove to be much more durable and the better long term choice.

Are the SH51 cleats included ?

Yes, there is a set in the bottom of the box. It was a bonus for me as mine had worn out.

Comparison with M545

Does one have any advantage over the other? Are the cages the same size? Roughly how big? Cheers
Asked by: nikel66
The DX M647 pedals are for more aggressive use with oversized bearings and feature a replacable resin cage. The M545 is a more rounded performer and feature an alloy cage and sealed cartridge bearings. Most riders will be fine with the M545 pedals but if you want to ride aggressively the DX M647 pedal is ideal. Cage size for both pedals is 100x80mm

Can you use these without clipping in?

I believe the cage on some pedals allows them to be ridden just using suitable trainers so that you don't need to clip in... I think the M424s allow this. Is it possible to use these pedals without clipping in... for example, if I just wanted to jump on and ride to the shop for a few minutes but didn't want to have to go to the trouble of putting shoes with cleats on?
Asked by: johntrappett
No not comfortably, the cleat will be above the level of the cage. if it was vital that you do it it is just a platform that spins, but the lumpiness would ruin a trainer in a few miles

Would you recommend these pedals for dh riding and with shimano spd shoes

Asked by: Franny14
No, I personally would not recommend these for downhill. Even though you can adjust the cleat release I still like to have the freedom off being able to get my foot out ASAP.

Are these a lower profile than the M424 pedal?

i.e. does anyone know how high these pedals are?
Asked by: BigAl101
The cage on the pedal is the same height on both pedals, 25mm. Due to the central clip system the pedal is actually 38mm in height.
