Rated 4 out of 5 by York01 from Good value. I used mine as a replacement for an old Tiagra 9spd. No problems, works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spudhead from Greater shifting range for very lttle money A piece of cake to fit and after adding a few extra chain links and a quick re-index my gear changes are crisp and quiet. Only really needed as wanted to go up to 32T on rear cassette. Will probably take a 34T with a bit of adjustment, but not officially supported.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Davy1 from Shimano quality guaranteed. Faultless shifting lightweight durable and very pleased with this purchase.

Compatibility - Tiagra

I have a Giant Defy 2.5 (2009) with a full tiagra setup. Need to replace as I've bent my current dérailleur. Would this be a compatible upgrate? Also, would I notice the difference? Would it be worth spending out a little extra and moving to Ultegra. Bearing in the mind this is for my winter/commuter bike.
Asked by: AlCycle95
I can confirm that the quality of this part will be better and this will be compatible but you will not notice the difference if you are still using the Tiagra shifters. I hope this helps.

Is this derailleur compatible with my bike?

Hi, I need to replace a broken Shimano tiagra rear derailleur on my 2011 Trek 1.2 triple. The cassette is a SRAM PG-950 11-36 steel 9-speed and the chainset is triple 50-39-30. If I go for the medium cage version will this derailleur fit my bike? Thanks
Asked by: toddage
No, it will not. The 36T is too big for this derailleur. Take a look at 10 speed mountain bike rear derailleurs (will handle 36T) in GS long cage (will handle triple chainring crankset).

Will this rear mech fit with my current spec?

Do i need a small or large one also? Cassette - 12-25T 10 Speed Chainset - FSA Omega Compact 50/34T, 170mm
Asked by: alanbyproxy
From the details provided, this derailleur should be suitable for you and the short cage option should be the the best choice.

Is this compatible with my bike?

I am going to upgrade some (already) worn out parts on my Boardman road bike. It has 2012 SORA throughout and I intend fitting the following 3 parts - a Dura Ace chain (9 speed) an Ultegra rear cassette (9 speed) and this 105 rear mech. Will these parts all be compatible?
Asked by: Marky7119
I can confirm this should be suitable without issue as it's listed as compatible with 8, 9 and 10-speed drivetrains.

7 speed compatible?

Would this be shimano 7 speed compatible?
Asked by: AlfChac
Answer would generally be no but if you are using old style downtube friction shifters then I cannot see why it wouldn't work. Any indexed system of other than 10 speed would probably not work with these as the amount of movement of the derailleur would not match the spacing of the gear cluster.

I have a 50/34 and an 11-28 cassette, seems as though I could have a medium or short cage derailleur, which is best?

I will never be wanting to get a triple set up so should I stick with short cage?
Asked by: Joeb7
I would recommend going for a short cage derailleur.

Compatible with 54-39 chainset

I have an old Specialized Allez Elite with 105 5600 front and rear. The chainset is 54-39. I want to put in an 11-32 cassette (HG-50 to replace existing HG-50 12-25) so I can get up hills. Will this 5700 GS do the job and will my shifters (105 STi 9 speed) work with this? Thanks.
Asked by: dtcoates
The GS Medium cage version should fit without issue, although you'll need something like the BBB BDP RollerBoys Jockey Wheels in option 2 to ensure full 9-speed compatibility.

Compatible with ultegra 6700 double?

Currently running an ultegra 6700 double 50/34 and short cage RD with 11-28. Looking to go up to 12-30 or a 32 tooth cassette for the Alps. Will this this RD work with ultegra 6700?
Asked by: paulma
Yes, they are compatible, I would recommend you the Medium cage rear mech.

Do I need a short or medium cage? I have 10 speed cassette and 50t & 34t up front?

Asked by: TeamCarp
Hi, More to do with what you have on the back. If your biggest cog on the back is more than 25 then i would go to medium cage. I think the short cage is meant to be ok for 30 Teeth but i think it is pushing things a bit.

replacement derailleur

I am trying to buy a replacement 105 or Ultegra rear derailleur but I am unsure what size my previous bike had on (SS or Med cage). Is there any way to determine this, e.g. measuring distance between jockeys? The only thing I can see marked on the current derailleur is RD-5700. My bike is a 2011 2.3 Trek with a 50/34 compact and 11-28 speed cassette.
Asked by: casualkilt
Hello, for that model bike and gearing combination, you will need the short cage (SS) version of this derailleur!
