Close ratio gearing allows a more efficient use of energy through finer cadence control. Largest sprockets are mounted on a lightweight alloy carrier to reduce weight and increase rigidity. Sprockets are cut away and drilled to further reduce weight without reducing rigidity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MistryN from Just what I needed Great value for money - needed a like-for-like replacement and I was glad to see the lowest price was on Wiggle. It's nice to feel smooth riding and easy gear shifting again! I think the 105 groupset is great value for money and decent results for a recreational rider.

Weight of 11-28 Cassette

Could the weight app. be given for this cassette?
Asked by: JHONDA
The weight given for the dura ace 11-23 is 163g and the ultegra 200g so I very much doubt this 105 is 140g.

will a shimano 105 short cage mech work ok with a shimano 11 - 28 cassette

Asked by: fredduke
When I switched from my 105 12-25 to an Ultegra 11-28 cassette, the instructions said to use the GS cage. Your best source of correct info will be on the Shimano website, they have pdf installation instructions for all components which will note all compatability issues. You might need to lengthen your chain though.

Does the 5700 10 spd Cassette come with the 1mm spacer?

Asked by: Dazza101
Yes Shimano 10sp cassettes come with a 1mm spacer. Note that compatible Shimano 11/10 speed wheelsets come with a 1.85 spacer. You should place both spacers on the hub before stacking up the cassette and then tightening the lock ring.

Should I change the chain as well if I change the cassette from 11/25 to 11/28?

I have TCR advanced 3, and I want to change my current cassette 11/25 to 11/28 (bigger). The current chain ring is 39/52T. Should I change the chain as well? Thanks.
Asked by: dejavu
No need to change. Buy a new chain to help with fitting the larger rear sprocket. Retain the old chain for use with the 11/25 cassatte.

best upgrade for hilly commute

My current 105 commute bike has a 46-36t crank combined with a 12-25t sprocket but i find it a hard slog on a hilly homeward bound ride with panniers etc. Is it possible to change to a 11-28t sprocket adn would this help me with the hils? I don't fully understand all the gearing jargon but hope sombody can help me out.
Asked by: AdsMad
Any time you add lower gears, you will find climbing hills easier. Check the Shimano website as all products have online installation instructions that will give you tips and warnings on compatability issues. You may find a derailler with a larger cage is needed and lengthening your chain too, Ultegra now has a 12-30 setup that is great for hills. I use it with a GS cage with no problems

I have a standard OCR1 Giant 2007 10sp with 105 drive train. I have replaced the 5600 cassette 12-25 with a 5700 11-28 combination.

The change over is not running smoothly - the chain has 3000kms on it - do any other components need to be changed to do this swap that may be causing the chain to ride up, mainly on the 28 tooth sprocket or is just time for a new chain ?
Asked by: WeekendWarrior1
First, toss the chain - it is past its used by date - which can be confirmed with a chain stretch tool (fancy looking ruler) or by a mechanic at your LBS. I believe the 105 5600 rear derailleur was designed for a maximum rear sprocket of 27T hence the lack of smoothness with a 28. A Shimano 5700 rear derailleur or a SRAM derailleur should cope with a 28T sprocket

can i change tiagra cassette for 105

I have a Mekk AL 1.5 compact with tiagra 12t-25t cassette. There are very few dead flat roads and some great mountain roads where I live but need some help climbing them. Could I change the cassette to 105 11t-28t or would I be better with Tiagra 12t-30t
Asked by: Mekkhombre
The 105 11-28T or the Tiagra 12-30T cassettes would both fit fine on your Mekk (rear derailleur is rated to max 30T) and provide a lower gear for your more mountainous terrain.

How do I remove the 105 5700 10 speed set from my existing wheel?

Asked by: Bc1107
You will need a cassette tool and chain whip. There are loads of good "how to" videos on you tube that will guide you through the process.
