About the Saris brand

Home for CycleOps/Saris is in an old farmhouse in bike-crazy Madison, Wisconsin. Their production facilities are behind the farmhouse. Believe it or not their origins are in curtain rods. Two brothers had a company that made window products. After the Graber brothers sold their company they needed something to do. They experimented in their garage and came up with a bike rack. They sold lots of racks under the Graber name and then sold the company. That was sometime back in 1973. Chris and Sara Fortune purchased the company in 1989 when it was selling 80,000 bike racks a year. In 1990 and 1991 Sara and Chris introduced a high end brand of bike rack, renaming them “Saris.” Today Saris is a leading supplier to the bicycle industry in 30 countries. The company expanded in 1999 by acquiring the Cycleops brand of bike trainer. As usual they set out to improve on the design and by 2001 they created a new trainer frame and in 2002 they debuted the world’s first progressive resistance magnetic trainer. It was in 2001 that they heard about a hub that could measure power output and they jumped at the chance to bring this product to cyclists. They bought the company that invented Powertap and started a new round of innovations Dede Demet won the gold medal at the 2002 Montreal World Cup on her powertap.

Saris Bones Solo one bike car rack is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 2 out of 5 by SuperTwin from Thjs product will scratch your car and your bike If you have an expensive bike, make sure you clean where the feet touch any bodywork and place clear plastic protection on the car. The same for the top tube of the frame of your bike. Otherwise, dirt and grime will scratch it. There is nothing to stop the front wheel flapping around and hitting your car unless you make something. I used 2 zip ties. It does hold the bike securely but if you can, invest in a good roof rack or stick the bike in the car

Rated 4 out of 5 by Smudge2222 from Safe, secure easy to use bike rack So easy to fit, great value for money, highly recommend this bike rack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Braemad from Depends on the car Good points: very simple to set up; holds bike securely; lightweight; easy to stow in boot (or bike shed) when not in use, without taking up too much space. Bad points: where there are any depends on what kind of car you have. It does fit a wide range of cars, which is great, but on a hatchback that has the numberplate on the back on the boot rather than down on the bumper (eg Ford Focus) the bike obscures the number plate, and to some extent the lights. So to be fully legal you would need a number plate or even lighting board to attach behind the bike.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Incublue from SCRATCHES PAINTWORK Scratches paintwork after one 45 minutes journey, holding a junior bike! The feet/pads that are placed on the car are not protected enough and leave fine marks, that do not clean off. Re spray of my car is now required! Make up your own mind if you want that to happen to your own car!?

Looks as though bike is held very close to the body of the car. Do pedals need to be removed to prevent paintwork damage

Asked by: IanWS
I use this on a hatchback and there was no worry about the pedals hitting the car. There is even s strap to tie around the pedal or frame to prevent the bike from rocking.

Fiat 500 fitting

Hi - is this compatible with the Fiat 500?
Asked by: JammyB001
I use this on my Fiat 500 with no problems, although it's not as stable as on other cars with a 'flatter' hatch back. As long as you take car mounting it and balancing the bike precisely it does the job fine.

This worked fine with my aluminium bike but im worried about the effect of the forces applied to the top tube if I was to use it for my carbon bike.
