Vancouver-based brand Race Face know about riding through bad weather and have come up with the Charge Sub-Zero Leg Guard as a knee warmer designed with mountain bikers in mind. The stretch thermal brushed-back fleece provides cozy and comfortable weather protection and a secure fit is ensured with silicone grippers and a silicone patch at the shin. A foam panel impact zone with stretch Kevlar covering gives you light protection against nicks and scrapes.
The Charge Sub-Zero Leg Guard is an ideal solution for those rides when you don't need the full impact-protection of a full knee-pad and just want an extra layer of defense from the cold.
Note: This guard is not rated for impact.
Top Opening: Measure the top opening above the knee/elbow, below the quadricep/bicep. Estimate your size by comparing your measurement with the fit chart, selecting the size closest to your measured result for the style you have selected.
Length: Now that you have estimated your size by following the instructions above, note the length that corresponds to your size. (this is the third measurement given in the chart). Using a measuring tape and pen, measure this length from the top measurement of knee/elbow down the shin/forearm and make a mark.
Bottom Opening: Using the pen mark as guide, measure the circumference of your leg/arm. If the result is within 2cm ( 0.75") of the chart measurement for the size you estimated above, this is your correct size.
If the measurement is off by more than 2cm (0.75"), or matching another size, we suggest that you re-check the Top Opening measurement and order according to that measurement. The Top Opening strap (or primary closure) secures pad placement while the Bottom Opening strap is a secondary closure.

It’s an abrasion resistant knee guard only as it’s not impact rated at all. The only difference between the two is that the Sub Zeros have brushed polyester inside to help keep you warm. There’s gripper silicon at either end to keep them in place on your leg.
Why wear something like this? Simple: there’s very little to insulate the tendons and ligaments in the knees when it’s cold. Adding a knee warmer or leg warmer when it’s cold out is common sense. If that’s not your style, one can wear actual knee guards to keep your knees warm; but when you’re headed out for a wet two-hour pedal, something that burly can chafe you raw in a hurry. And when it’s really cold, even something lightweight like the G-form or Race Face’s own Indy knee guards can be uncomfortably stiff.
Keep in mind that these are really only for technical XC rides as they have absolutely zero impact resistance. But they are perfect for helping to prevent shredded knees if you have a tendency to kiss the dirt every now and again when it’s sloppy out.
