About the Michelin brand

The Michelin tyres saga begins 1891, with the invention of the first demountable tyre for bicycles. Over the ensuing years, Michelin has never stopped technological innovations for bicycles, such as the first flexible-bead clincher in 1978, the first tyre with a high-density carcass in 1983, and the first tyre with a high-performance silica rubber compound in 1995. In 2000, Michelin introduced the first tubeless tyre for mountain bikes, and has been testing tubeless road tyres in competition since 2003. Riding with total confidence in your tyres means that grip and safety must be optimal under any conditions, in extreme weather or at high speeds. It’s why year after year Michelin introduces technological innovations and develops products with ever-higher performance. Nowadays, the development of bicycle tyres benefits from the same research methods used in designing tyres for Formula 1 and even the space shuttle. Michelin is the only manufacturer developing tyres for such diverse R&D environments. At Michelin they are more than just a tyre manufacturer. They are a community of men and women committed to social responsibility. Below are examples of how they strive to reduce our impact on the environment while delivering greater value, riding pleasure and security.

What is the maximum pressure?

I started with 80 psi and then pumped them up to 100 psi which made them significantly faster. I ride a lot of hills with steep descents so don't want blowouts, but was wondering whether i was being too cautious with 100 psi. Would 120 psi be ok? I use 25mm Continental GP 4000S and love the combination by the way!
Asked by: Josss
The tubes should be fine with the pressure, the tyres have a recommended pressure of 110psi and a maximum of 120psi. So you can still go up another 10psi to get to the recommended.

Can I use these Conti Force 24mm tyres?

Can I use these Conti Force 24mm tyres? If not, any other latex inner tubes I can use?
Asked by: ckboon
Yes, you can I am currently using them in Schwalbe Rocket Ron 33c cyclocross tyres. So the small amount of stretch you are wanting isn't a problem.

will these handle 145psi?

i'm running fortezza tricomp slicks (with a rating of 175psi) and vento rims which are rated at 145psi. thanks in advance.
Asked by: perthite
You would need to use spoke hole plugs and make sure everything is very clean I think. When these go they go with a big bang and deflate instantly.

Shelf Life?

Presume that the latex tubes dry out/crack over time. I have a couple that I have carried with me all year without needing & they were purchased about a year before that. Do you know how long they remain useful. I do not want to be let down this year... Thanks Ian
Asked by: giraldo
Heat and UV light are very bad for latex, so where the tubes were stored could be a big factor. Latex tubes deteriorate only if outside and exposed to light, sun, UV and extreme temperatures. The tube will have a long life when protected. A latex tube should be packaged inside a plastic zip-lock bag inside of the box. Since latex is so sensitive to ozone degradation, keep them sealed in the bag until use.

Plastic sleeve

Do I remove the plastic sleeve or leave it on? The valve hole is a bit tight to include the plastic sleeve. I am thinking of adding heat shrink tubing to cover the tiny gap at the valve hole.
Asked by: ckboon
I have tried to leave it on, but it won't last long. You have to trim it to get the pump on. I now take it off and I do not hear any rattle or have any other problems with it off.

Floor Pumps

Can I use Lezyne floor pump to pump air into these tubes? The only threaded part is where you screw the plastic cover. So can the Flip-Thread Chuck work here? Can't visualise it. Thanks.
Asked by: ckboon
yes, no problem. I have a Lezyne floor pump that screws on and its worked perfectly.
