Rated 5 out of 5 by TheCyberMonkey from Worked perfectly Hope EC44/40 bottom cup headset worked perfect at converting my zero stack straight 1 1/8 to 1.5, which allowed me to use modern tapered forks. Highly recommended if your head tube has a 44 inner diameter. Very smooth bearings s well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pube from All Hope products are excellent. These pick and mix headsets from the Hope factory are excellent and totally necessary in the unnecessarily confusing world of headsets today. For those of you that are under 80 years old the bicycle headset was 1 inch from the year dot to the year 2000 approx and then all heal broke lose and millions of unnecessary alternative headset sizes were born. I must say that I wish Hope would take a billet of alloy and form a complete cycle from it. Then we really would be in heaven. Go on Hope , make a whole shiny silver bike with a lump of your alloy.

Are "integral and "internal" headsets the same?

Asked by: jdap
No, an integral headset has a bearing cup that fits into the frame almost flush. An internal headset uses a feature inside the headtube (part of the frame) instead of a seperate bearing cup.

Best mix for 44mm headtube and tapered steerer

I have a new frame with a 44mm internal diameter headtube and my forks have a tapered 1.125" to 1.5" steerer. The specs say I can use a 44mm headset with internal or external bearings (or in combination). My preference is for external. What are my options for my top and bottom bearings?
Asked by: Velovida
I'd choose 2 and H 'cause they have 44mm heab tube.

Which combo for a 2005 Trek 8000?

I'm looking to work out which top & bottom cup combo I'd need for a 2005 Trek 8000. It has the ZR9000 frame, and currently has a Cane Creek S2 and a Fox F80RL fork (though I may be looking to fit a 2018 Fox 36 in the near future). The manual is slightly cryptic, but it gives original headset specs as per the following: Alloy headset, semi cartridge 25.4/34.0/30.0, 27.2 mm stack height Thanks
Asked by: damo1312
You would require the 1: Top 1 1/8" External Top and the A: Bottom = 1 1/8" Traditional - EC34/30

semi-integrated, semi-cartridge bearings frame 1 1/8 to tapered conversion

I have a frame with semi-integrated, semi-cartridge bearings 1 1/8. what bottom head set would i need to to run a tapered fork and what increase in stack height would it give me?
Asked by: philstar
Go to the Hope website, it has a very good section on the pix and mix headsets. There you will see the Hope:H (EC44/40) bottom bearing which will fit the bottom of your headset. Stack height is given as 14mm. I have not noticed any handling changes with my conversion, if anything the bike feels a lot better and reacts better, i run a 29er.
