The new eTrex series is the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. GLONASS is a system developed by the Russian Federation. When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to “lock on” to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone.

BaseCamp™ (www.garmin.com/basecamp) is a free utility that allows users to plan and manage trips, routes, tracks, and waypoints and transfer them between the computer and eTrex. The advantage of using BaseCamp is you can use your TOPO maps right away from the preprogrammed microSD card with no installation or unlocking process needed. Just plug the card or your GPS into the computer and start convenient planning with optional 3D view on PC or Mac. With Track Draw, users can trace a fluid track and get an immediate elevation profile to determine the difficulty of their hike or geocaching adventure.
