Rated 3 out of 5 by DanYork from Unsure about this product As several other reviewers have noted, this is incredibly thin, almost watery. I'm sure that helps it penetrate in between the joints of the chain but it also makes it difficult to apply without losing half of it as runoff, and makes it messy to apply to an indoor trainer. It also doesn't seem to "quieten" the chain as much as some other lubes, making me think its not providing the same level of lubrication. On the other hand, it seems to keep the chain clean and running smoothly. Overall, I think I'll stick with the MucOff Dry/Ceramic again in future, which is the best I've found to date.

Cleaning?

I've been cycling for more than fifty years but never used dry chain-lube. It's got rave reviews, but how often do you have to clean the chain, if ever? It's sometimes said that you just re-apply and let the old stuff just fall off? Any truth in this? I've just ordered a bottle of Dry Teflon so would be grateful for any advice. Cheers.
Asked by: neighbour1
If you are using this lube and you get a real drenching whilst you are out, I would recommend that you clean the chain properly using finish line or other proprietary chain cleaner and then reapply. If you are only out in dry conditions then you do only need to keep reapplying, but I would always wipe the dirt off first or use a light oil such as GT85 or WD40 to help lift the dirt if it is dried on, then wipe clean and reapply. This way there is no need for a full clean. I have used this and the wet version (through the Winter) for a number of years and have never had a squeak or a chain break.

Another chain cleaning question!

Hi again, and thanks for your prompt reply to my previous question, in which you say that the Teflon stuff is only good in dry and dusty conditions. Hmm... Not a lot of that around where I live and ride at the moment (NB: Feb 2014 and half of Britain is sub-agua!) So is wet and dry compatible? No problems with mixing stuff like those with anti-freeze or engine oils? Does it wash off with petroleum based solvents and/or de-greaser? It looks like I'm going to be ordering some wet stuff too, but I'd be grateful if you could put me right on this one. Thanks again.
Asked by: neighbour1
Hi neighbour1 It is best to use dry for the drier summer months and the wet for the climate we are so unfortunate to be stuck with at the moment; as to compatible you would not mix them they are designed for there intended purpose. Last but not least , chain cleaners will remove the lube, follow instructions on the container and you can`t go wrong.

How much do I apply and how often?? What is best way to apply as well??

Asked by: Cakka
Hi I tend to clean my chain with a de-greaser, then spray with GT85, wipe off all excess fluid & grime, then apply a good coat of lube - leave for a few minutes, then wipe the chain until dry & 'clean' then add a final thick coat & leave to soak in. I tend to only get to ride at weekends, so the lube sits on the chain from Sunday afternoon until the following Saturday morning....then runs like a dream over 100 miles

Approximately how many uses will I be able to get out of this?

Asked by: ekulmot
I am sorry this is not a usual measurement for this product. The bottle holds 4oz, depending on your chain length and how much you apply it would last a very different amount of time and applications.

wax?

is this a wax type lube, the type that hardens then flakes off or a standard oil with some teflon added?
Asked by: snig
This is an alcohol based lube, so it will not harden and fall off. It is very thin and light, but it sticks to the chain well. I would recommend if you are using the bike for road riding 100%

The product I have is clear, even after shaking well, so not sure what product you got last time, but perhaps it was a different one from the same brand?

Use on indoor training

Is wax a better option for use with bikes which are used primarily on a turbo trainer?
Asked by: Gazmaz
Wax is ideal for dry conditions or indoor use as it sticks and does not drip.

Do chain lubes have expiry dates?

Hi I’ve got both the wet and dry lube from finish line. Do they have a best before or an expiration date? ( like engine oil for example )
Asked by: R1Alan
I wouldn’t drink it after 6 mouths to be on the safe side
