Adhesion is guaranteed by industrial-grade acrylic glue, native to the base tape. This means that when removing the tubular (breaking its bond with the rim), the acrylic glue will stay on the tape, not on the rim. Acrylic has a good adhesion on both aluminium and carbon without any specific surface preparation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Virgin tubular user It was the first time to replace tubular tires, I bought the tires, the glue, I spent a fair few hours with brake cleaner trying to get the old glue and hang on a minute “tape”. So, I read the reviews and decided to return the glue and ordered 2 rolls of this tape. I went back to cleaning the rims. Fitted the tires without tape to stretch them and waited a couple of days. So, the instructions kinda say to fit and get the tape to set at over 21 centigrade. I wound up the upstairs heating, turning off the fan in the guest on-suite and closed the door leaving the tape, rims and tires to get warm. A few hours later I returned and had a go. It was really easy to fit the tape to the rim, I popped the tire on and adjusted it. Peeled the tape and inflated to a much higher pressure than I would ever ride at. Did the second rim the same. In the morning I went back and inspected. Everything seemed fine. Went to the garage and fitted the tires. It was fine. Now I’m learning about how low tubular pressure actually is verses clinchers. As for the tape I have to say. It was easy to fit and the tubs are still on the rims. I’ve been on a couple of rides but it’s kinda cold out and this is a summer toy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes changing a tubular easy. Using this tape takes all the hassle out of changing a tubular. The old tubular peels off, leaving all the tape on the tubular and none on the rim. Give the rim a quick clean with meths, stick the tape to the rim, press it down with the handle of a pair of pliers and you are ready to fit the tub. You fit the tub to the wheel with the backing tape still on, partially inflate the tub, then remove the backing tape. I found the method on the GCN video (using a tire leaver) to be the easiest way to remove the backing tape without it tearing. You don’t have to pre stretch the tubulars like you do when using glue, but I found that it is a good idea to leave the new tub inflated on a clean rim (no tape) overnight prior to fitting, just to check that the valve extender isn’t leaking air. If you don’t discover a leak until after the tubular is glued on you are a bit stuck, as there is no way the tyre is coming off once this glue takes hold, not without spoiling the tape anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick, clean, and simple! There’s not a huge amount to say about this tape as it does exactly what it says on the tin! It’s quite a thick and spongey tape which will compress and widen a little once the tyre’s on, so make sure you get the correct size! Installing the tape was simple, the roll has enough to go around the whole rim. The tape is very sticky on first contact with the rim, but has a small window of forgiveness if you don’t put it on dead straight first time (it’s pretty much like using Fond de Jante in this regard). Once the tape is on, pull about three inches of the covering tape off to allow the tyre to stick, and install the tyre. I installed my tub at about 20psi as it was enough to maintain shape without being a pain to get on. Once you’ve done that, make sure the tyre is straight, pull the covering tape out with the tabs you made before, pump the tyre up to the maximum pressure of the tyre/rim, and let it sit for at least 24 hours. Be aware the glue likes to work in warm temperatures so don’t do this outside in the depths of winter! This tape is so much simple than glueing, and gives a more even and stronger bond. I’ll never be using glue again!

The medium tape states sufficient for 2 wheels, the narrow does not specify
