Gravity Arc Tread Design:
The new design of the Vapor uses even the space in between the lugs to increase traction with 3D faces enlarging the surface of the tread. The surfaces are determined by free falling u-bends or Arcs. The shape comes naturally, and at a minimum material input to keep weight low. The contact patch or "footprint" of the tyre to the ground gets bigger, therefore improving traction.

Additionally, the Arcs/u-bends reinforce the tread blocks which helps the tyre hook up more effectively. The lugs flex less under load, so steering response is improved as the shoulder knobs do not squirm during cornering. This is because the stresses are dissipated over a wider surface area.

The tops of the tread blocks are sharp & hard and cut through wet & loose surfaces more rapidly. Additionally, they hold very well on hard stony ground to give a more responsive ride. The edges of the lugs are rectangular to the incoming traction & steering forces - this way the lugs can take the forces and deliver them directly to the ground without braking loose.

The shoulder edges (left) run with the rotation for fast & secure cornering
The centre tread edges (below left) run at 90° to rotation for perfect traction & braking.

About the Continental brand

More than 100 years experience in the development and production of bicycle tyres has made Continental a unique company within the industry. Continental is the only German bicycle tyre manufacturer to produce its tyres in Germany. Knowing this serves as a mighty incentive to our engineers and everyone else involved in the manufacturing process to constantly strive for further innovations. In our technology and development center in Korbach, we are constantly developing new revolutionary technologies such as the unbeatable Black Chili Compound and the ultimate Vectran™ Breaker anti-puncture technology, both used at the top end of race sport. These technologies demand sophisticated processes to ensure our legendary end-product quality, and these innovations as well as the new “ProTection” and ”RaceSport” technology for MTB tyres, can only be manufactured in our factory in Germany – “Handmade in Germany”. In order to offer the best tyre for any application, we rely equally on dialogue with our professional racers, hobby cyclists and everyday bike riders. This results not only in high-end products for top sports applications such as the new Podium TT or the revolutionary downhill tyre “Der Kaiser”, but also tyres for everyday use like the new innovative combination EcoContact/EcoContact Plus as a companion to the latest e-bike trend. As a global player, Continental also maintains high-tech production facilities outside of Germany, where Continental tyres are produced for you with an equal degree of care and dedication. One thing all Continental bicycle tyres have in common is that they are developed in the technology center in Korbach, Germany, where they also undergo strict inspection. Our heart and soul is behind the phrase “Handmade in Germany”, with all of its products and technologies.

Continental Vapor Mountain Bike Tyre is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 4 out of 5 by bikerrog from Easy fit - smooth running and no punctures. Thought I'd take a risk with this tyre despite the negative reviews regarding puncturing. And what a good choice it was. Easy to fit, smooth running, quick on and off road. And now having completed well over two hundred mile (on and off road) no punctures. Will definitely buy again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MoorishIdol from Perhaps I should have spent a little more I bought these typres for the South Downs Way ride we did back at the beginning of the summer. They looked the part, but sadly that seemed to all. I have never had so many punctures as I have experienced since riding with these on my bike. I thought perhaps it was just the rutted route, but since getting home, and really only using them for tarmac commuting, the punctures continue. I'll be looking to spend a little more next time - My old tyres were by Maxxis, which were excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Knoxy103 from Great tyres Lovely tyres at a lovely price, just be careful because you cant return these (free) as they are too big, so make sure they are right before buying

Rated 3 out of 5 by Marvcat from Good Value Good value tyres, providing decent grip. They are however vulnerable to punctures and one of mine split before the tread was even half depth. Good for 1000 kilometres.

Is a 28" tyre the same as the 700 (metric) tyre ??

Hi There I have a hybrid AVANTI bike with 700 x 38 tires on it. They are of the semi slick nature and i wish to put something a bit more knobbly on it. Will the 28" tire's fit these rims? Regards
Asked by: ryder
