Back in 1991 Vitus introduced the original ZX1 model. It was one of a number of pioneering launches for Vitus, bringing the first one piece carbon moncoque frame to market. This new manufacturing method allowed Vitus to push the aerodynamic boundaries of the ZX1 design, creating a truly unique bike.
The all new ZX1 is engineered for the demands of the modern road racer. It blends the benefits of a lightweight and comfortable race bike with the speed advantage of an aero profile.
Whilst not following traditional aerofoil profiles, as bikes are different to planes, the ZX1 utilises Kammtail tube profiles, where the trailing edge of the tube is squared off. The Kammtail has been proven to enhance comfort, whilst maintaining lightweight and stiffness. It also offers increased cross wind stability, without sacrificing the aerodynamics of teardrop wing style designs.
An asymmetric and oversized bottom bracket helps to maximise drive, and overall lateral stiffness. With the use of different layups we have a balanced power transfer on the drive and non-drive sides of the bike while under pedalling load.
Disc brakes keep the air flow clean around the import areas around rims and tyres, and compliment the aesthetics of the frame. Using 12mm bolt through axles to give a direct and connected feel to the steering, and a stable and efficient power delivery.
The ZX1 is built for speed. It’s ready to race, whether that’s in the pro peloton or out blitzing your friends on your favourite routes and sections.

First emerging as a frame builder in 1970s France, Vitus Bikes played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized among collectors today. In 1982 we engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes. Their tradition of innovation continued throughout subsequent decades with frames which included the 1991 ZXI monocoque carbon frame, the spirit of which lives on in their latest generation of monocoque road bikes. Without exception, each of the bikes – from their singlespeed commuter to the high-end carbon road model – won plaudits for their ride quality, build and great value. The reviews confirmed what they knew all along, and they intend to improve on these already test-winning models as Vitus push forward with the development of this great brand of bikes. “Credit has to be due to a brand that has come back from the ashes and rather than milk the prestige of the old days, has set its sights on the biggest players on the scene.” CYCLIST magazine. Vitus bikes have been tested in many of the top cycling titles and websites across all disciplines. Their bikes have won group tests across Europe and are regarded as some of the best on the market.
Sizing Information
The size chart below will get you on the right size bike. Experienced riders may also wish to refer to the geometry chart for more detail.
Getting the Right Fit
At Wiggle we measure each of our bikes to build accurate size charts for our customers. Our qualified team of mechanics then individually check each order, against measurements supplied by you, to ensure the size chosen is correct. Another reason you can have complete confidence when buying a bike from Wiggle!
If you are on the change over between sizes both options will fit. Racers and experienced riders would usually select a smaller size as this offers quicker handing. A larger bike offers more stability and is more suited to new and intermediate riders.
