Guide to Wiggle Events

How do I select the most appropriate event for my ability and requirements?
Before you enter, take a moment to think about what you want from the event. Do you want a challenge where you can push yourself? Or do you want to spend the day at a more leisurely pace? Once you’ve established this, you need to be honest with yourself about your current ability level: what’s your current training? What distances and terrains are you experienced in? Although it’s fantastic to push yourself and achieve new goals, it’s also extremely important that you don’t leave yourself vulnerable to injury and exhaustion. Once you’ve done a few events, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect and will be able to push ahead throughout the season!

Why should I take part in an event?
Entering an event is a great way to set a goal and a focus. Events give you something to look forward to during the working week and the entry is an incentive to make sure that you get outside in the fresh air at the weekend. Plus training for events can improve your fitness. The event day itself will leave you with the great feeling of having achieved a goal, honed skills, and met new people that share your interests.

Are these events safe and is first aid provided?
Our event organisers all have a wealth of experience between them. All routes are checked, well-marked and there is always somebody that is trained in First Aid on-site. However, entrants are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid leaving themselves vulnerable to accidents and injury. For some events, there is a time limit on course completion to ensure that participants are not left out on the route.

Will there be parking available at the event start?
All Wiggle events include allocated car parking. We advise entrants to share car journeys where possible to ensure that congestion and traffic in and around the area are kept to a minimum. Parking at Sold Out events are likely to reach maximum capacity and entrants are therefore advised to arrive early to ensure that they secure a car parking space.

Do events start and finish in the same place?
Wiggle event routes are circular and start and finish at the same place. This is to make sure that it really is easy for entrants to turn up, ride and go home after a successful day out!

Are there age limits for events?
Most of the Wiggle Super Series events offer an Under 16 option. The full-length routes are designed to offer more difficult challenges. The Under 16 option is our way of offering something for everybody – regardless of age, gender or skill.

What does it mean if a ferry ticket is included?

Purchasing a ferry ticket with your event entry is an option for routes which include a ferry crossing as part of the course. Currently, this is only applicable to the Wiggle Super Series Wight Ferry Sportive and the Wiggle Super Series Wight Winter Sportive. If a ferry ticket is included in the entry, you do not need to buy a separate ticket for the ferry crossing.

Online entrants will receive their ticket with their posted documentation. On The Day entrants will be given their ticket at registration. You will receive one ferry ticket (for foot passenger plus bike) per entry.

Details of ferry times will be available on the event page on the organiser’s website.

What do I need to take with me to an event?

  • Ticket - Please ensure you print out your ticket and take it with you to the event. You will be required to present this at registration.
  • You will need to bring a Bike to participate in Cycling Events
  • Helmet - You will be required to take your helmet with you to registration.
  • Appropriate cycling clothing
  • Cycling shoes
  • Nutrition
  • Spares for road side repairs

What is a Wiggle cycling event like?

All our Super Series events are professionally organized to make you enjoy the ride whilst we take care of the rest. Our friendly staff will be at hand for anything you need. Any questions?

Sounds great but I have limited time to ride at weekends

We know that. Hence why you can always expect free parking at the venue and speedy registration having bought your ticket online with us. You will be given a timing chip and a security brief at the start the line. And you’re off!

Hmmm… I feel insecure about riding on my own on unknown roads and trails

Our events are very popular so there will be plenty of like-paced cyclists you can tag onto. And don’t worry, no need for a GPS if you haven’t got one. You can expect a fully-marked route and marshals’ at strategic points to guide you along the way.

What if….

Keep calm and keep riding. We got you covered with on-course mechanical and medical assistance if needed. And your ticket includes rider public liability insurance too.

OK Wiggle I will need a rest and some re-fuelling. Will you help?

Yes indeed. We’ll have feed stations where you can self-serve hot and cold drinks, sweet and savoury snacks and nutritional products from top brands.

What will I get out of your events in the end?

There’s nothing that beats the satisfaction of having completed a good ride. We top it up with a bespoke medal of the event for you to commemorate such glory and a Wiggle finisher gift to say ‘thank you’. And whilst it’s not a race, you’ll be able to see if your time deserves a Gold, Silver or Bronze finisher’s certificate which you can download and print.

Any more questions? Head over to our Facebook page where you can message us and see our up to date calendar of events. If you want to draw your friends or family with you, click on the ‘Going’ or ‘Interested’ buttons and share your intentions with them. Remember you can save 20% on all our events on single bookings of 4 tickets or more.

We hope to see you at the start line of a Wiggle event soon…

This includes, but is not exclusive to, fees from Police, Air Ambulance, Fire and Rescue and the Ambulance service. If the situation arises that you are not capable of making the decision to call the emergency services, the rider agrees that a member of UK Cycling Events Ltd, Time Inc. 23. Riders are expected to respect the roads, villages and countryside that the events travel through. It should be remembered that this is both a working landscape and home to many communities. Riders stopping for a comfort break are asked to do so discretely and appropriately and not to cause any offence to local residents or other riders.
  24. In the case of Mountain Bike and Cyclocross events, riders are expected to close all gates after they pass unless otherwise instructed. Riders must not leave a gate open for a rider following behind. Gates should be opened and closed and not vaulted. Any rider causing damage to a gate will be liable for any costs to repair said damage.

SECTION B: ADVENTURE CROSS SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS

(UK) Ltd (the publishers of Cycling Weekly and MBR). Completion of an entry form or purchase of an entry to an event acknowledges acceptance of these Terms and Conditions by the participant.

Adventure Cross is a cross-country journey by bike that incorporates a mixture of tracks, trails, lanes, bridleways & roads to create an interesting and challenging route over a variety of terrain and surfaces. The on/off road nature of Adventure Cross routes makes a Cyclocross bike the ideal choice but, equally, a mountain bike can also be used.

  1. Each participant, upon signing the registration form, agrees that they understand the on/off road style of the Adventure Cross event they are entering and furthermore understands the arduous nature of the event, the terrain and style of riding. Furthermore, each participant confirms that they are physically fit and capable of undertaking this challenging event.
  2. The Event Registration Form must be completed by a person aged 18 years or over. Evidence of age may be requested. Participants between the age's of 16-18 will be allowed to participate in the event with the consent of their parent or legal guardian who must sign the Event Registration Form on behalf of the underage rider. Signing is also an acceptance for the actions and consequences of the underage rider. 16 to 18-year-olds need to be accompanied at all times by an adult who is responsible for them and are only permitted to ride the short route. Adventure Cross events are not open to riders under 16.
  3. All riders are covered by third party insurance for the duration of the event. The cost of this is included in your entry fee. In addition, Rather Be Cycling is covered for civil party liability.
